Sakizaki: what’s in a name?
I have to admit, I probably spent more time figuring out a name for this blog than I have actually writing in it thus far. With a tendency to overthink things, it’s no wonder I wanted to put some inherent meaning into the actual title.
先々, or Sakizaki, is Japanese for the distant future, inevitable future – or my current favorite, the places one goes to [in life]. (Source: JEdict)
This makes a stab at something perhaps fundamental to me: my tendency to focus on the upcoming journey, and where the future’s going. Without blowing things into a philosophical debacle, I’ll say that it was through these ideas that I came to help develop WeDrink, which will be featured quite extensively here, as well as playing a heavy role in my future aspirations.
Sakizaki, the inevitable future, the places we go to – things we all need to keep in mind as we pass through everyday life. Studying meditation and mindfulness recently has continuously demonstrated to me that, short of life crises, most of us escape the thought that “what we do in life echoes in eternity”.
Well, damn, I can’t think of a better way to end a blog post than with a Gladiator quote.
