They were actually about the same - almost a week across the US (including a night in Seattle), and a week to cross the Pacific. Makes you appreciate the 14 hour plane trip a little more. I like your idea that we should take time to appreciate how much distance we're traveling when we go overseas, instead of passively letting the ground fly by under us while we're on a plane.
